Tailor on Tap brings bespoke clothing to a wider audience.

Getting fitted for tailor-made clothing by your personal style consultant while enjoying a dram of whiskey or a glass of wine sounds like a fashionista’s perfect afternoon, and a new store in Tysons Corner is making custom couture more accessible than ever.

Tailor on Tap, an online custom-clothing company founded in 2018 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is opening its first brick and mortar location later this month at BrandBox in Macerich’s Tysons Corner Center. The retailer’s mission is to provide luxury, tailor-made clothing that reflects a variety of styles and budgets, from dresses and denim to shirts and three-piece suits.

“Tailor on Tap started by focusing on trunk shows at career fairs, private clubs and athletic conferences,” says Kayla Druga, vice-president of organizational development and marketing.  “As we started to grow we knew it was important to find a space for our first brick and mortar location that offered us access to a similar client-base [and] Tysons Corner was a perfect fit for us because of the proximity to so many prestigious schools as well as the network of professionals in the area.” The opening was delayed a few months because of COVID-19, but the team has hit the ground running and is excited to safely welcome customers.

Clients book a fitting and design session, which includes designated parking in the garage. During the fitting, they can sample complementary Basil Hayden Bourbon or a selection of local Virginia beers and wines. “Tailor on Tap was created to offer clients an experience, not just a standard shopping trip,” Druga points out.

Fabrication of the pieces takes around two to three weeks, followed by a final fitting at the store along with any necessary alterations; staff keeps measurements on file for future orders as styles and seasons change. A fitting costs $50 and can be used toward the first purchase. The most popular items are shirts ($79-$299), suits ($399-$1,999) and jeans ($99-$309), made from fabric sourced from England, Italy or Turkey. In-person or virtual wardrobe evaluations starting at $249 will help clients get the most from their investments.

Druga says the concept appeals from college students to athletes to professionals of all ages, people who thought this option was out of their budget as well as those who only wear custom clothes. “We are dedicated to collaborating with clients on a wardrobe that reflects both career and lifestyle goals, while respecting the reality of [their] bank accounts,” she says. “Our clients will get to work with style consultants to find the designs that best fit their lifestyle and personality, so that they can be confident in what they wear, and maybe enjoy a drink while they’re at it!”

Haberdashery and Hefeweizen? Win-win.
