Fall Suit Styles: What to Wear this Season

Fall is probably our favorite time of year to dress well. The temperatures drop, the colors get richer, and you can finally bring out the heavier fabrics and layers that make getting dressed a little more interesting.

If you’re thinking about adding a new suit or sport coat to your wardrobe this season, here are a few styles worth considering.

Bring in Some Color

Fall is a great excuse to step outside of the usual navy and gray. Think deep brown, burgundy, olive, forest green, and warm camel tones.

You don’t have to go all-in on a bold color, either. A brown suit with a white shirt is classic and easy, while a burgundy or deep green sport coat can add just enough personality to an otherwise simple outfit.

Choose a Fabric With Some Texture

One of the easiest ways to make a suit feel more appropriate for fall is to change the fabric.

Flannel, tweed, wool, and other textured fabrics have a little more depth than a lightweight summer suit. They also pair naturally with the rest of your fall wardrobe.

A textured sport coat is especially useful because you can wear it with dress trousers, chinos, or even dark denim depending on where you’re going.

Don’t Forget About Layering

Fall gives you a lot more options when it comes to layering. A sweater under a sport coat, a vest with a suit, or a well-fitted overcoat can completely change the look.

The key is keeping the layers clean and fitted so the outfit still feels polished rather than bulky.

Give Brown a Try

If there’s one color we love seeing in fall wardrobes, it’s brown.

From dark chocolate and espresso to lighter tobacco and camel, brown works surprisingly well with everything from crisp white shirts to soft blues and creams.

A brown suit can also be incredibly versatile. Wear it as a full suit for a more formal look, then break up the pieces and wear the jacket separately.

Make the Sport Coat the Statement

You don’t always need a full suit. A great sport coat can do a lot of work in your wardrobe.

Try a subtle windowpane, herringbone, or plaid in a seasonal color. Pair it with tailored trousers for a dressier look or dark denim when you want something more relaxed.

Make It Yours

Trends come and go, but a great-fitting suit never really goes out of style. Fall is simply a good opportunity to experiment with fabrics, colors, and textures that you might not reach for during the warmer months.
